Old self and new self
Ephesians 4:17~24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (22~24)

The book of Ephesians is a compilation of letters that Paul wrote in prison. Although Paul was in prison, he did not think of his situation as difficult or tough. It is because he had the answer that others did not have. Likewise, Joseph did not have a hard time living as a slave, because he knew the conclusion. If you possess this important answer, important things will happen. What would happen if you held on to the covenant that people of God in the Bible held on to today?
1. Your old self will crumble down
Although we have the Gospel, we may face hardships as we live in the world. If we open the eyes of faith to see that the problem is not a problem and the hardship is not a hardship, then our old self will begin to crumble down. The “old self” refers to the self that has fallen into the original sin. When you are caught in the problem of Genesis 3, you can never escape from destiny, calamites, hell and the power of Satan. Eventually, emptiness comes in the end of their lives, and they go to hell after death. An even more frightening thing is that the same disasters are passed down to the descendants. Wherever God’s people go with the Gospel, works of crumbling down original sin, consequential sin, and religion will arise.
2. The blessing of the new self will come
God calls those who have come out from the powers of sin, curses, and Satan and received salvation as “new self.” Wherever the new self goes, three things will happen. First is the work of Christ. Wherever the new self goes, darkness and disasters will crumble and the way to meet God will be opened. At that time, the kingdom of God will come. Second, the new self is a citizen of heaven, and that is why works of the background of heaven arise. Third, we will receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, see the future, and become witnesses to save the age.
3. A new life will begin
When we say we are putting on the new self, it means a new life begins. For this, we must get rid of futility. If you hold on to things in vain, you will be darkened in understanding, become ignorant, become hardened in your heart, and will leave God. Also, you will lose all sensitivity and indulge in every kind of impurity and lust. Now, we must begin the life of the evangelist regardless of the fruits that bear. The life of the evangelist is the new life we must live.
- We need strength in order to put off our old selves and put on our new selves. We will receive this strength when we pray holding on to the covenant.
