Focus on Immanuel!
Psalms 23:1~6 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. (1)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #446 I Need Thee Every Hour (#500 in previous version)
The essence of living the life of an evangelist is to realistically enjoy the blessing that God is with us. Because our life has strayed from Immanuel, we must focus on Immanuel once again. This is the life of an evangelist. If we focus on living the life of an evangelist, we will receive answers. Problems will be resolved and we ourselves will be revived. This is more important than many answers and works, and this is the fruit of the blessing of getting a taste even in trivial matters. What must we begin in order to focus on Immanuel?
1. We must grab hold of God’s Word first
Grabbing hold of God’s Word does not mean reading the Bible a lot. It is not about pointing out a verse from the Bible and blindly following it as if a fortuneteller would tell fortunes. The Bible did not exist during the times of Abraham, Joseph and Moses. They knew about Genesis 3:15 and grabbed hold of it. It was only one verse about the Gospel, but they held on to the Word and experienced Immanuel. Under any circumstances or problems, they never lost hold of the blessing of ‘with’ but witnessed the progression and victory that took place because of the Word. Likewise, we must hold on to the Word and experience Immanuel in all things that take place in church, from small matters to construction.
2. It must originate from prayer
Unbelievers consider their thoughts important, but prayer of seeking out God’s will is far more important to us than our thoughts because God is with us. Our thoughts are important, but no matter how well we think, we cannot see what is beyond the world. We must change our thoughts into prayer and follow the thoughts that stem from the answers to our prayers. God promised that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. This is the Christian’s walk of faith. We should neither hurry nor remain idle. We must begin living the life of an evangelist who receives guidance in all things through prayer.
3. We must find personal answers
If we find God’s will first, we will receive personal answers. Personal answers are the answers that God has given exclusively to each individual. Though I am lacking, there is God’s Word that He has given solely to me, and though I am powerless, there is the commission that He has given solely to me. If we enjoy God who is with us and seek out God’s will along the way, we will gladly enjoy our own personal answers.
- The day may pass by quickly, but set aside some time to look upon God who is with you. You will experience God who is with you by the Word, prayer and working of the Holy Spirit.
