A prophet of the 21st century
Obadiah 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom: “We have heard a message from the Lord: An envoy was sent to the nations to say, ‘Rise, let us go against her for battle’”

In every age, God has raised up prophets to deliver His will. The name Obadiah means ‘servant of the Lord.’ God called Obadiah as a prophet to relay His Word to all nations. As we examine what God did after He called Obadiah as a prophet, may we all hold on to today’s Word as we take to heart once again the fact that God has called us as the prophets of this age.
1. The duties of a prophet
A prophet is someone who relays the Word of God to the people. Therefore, the duty of a prophet is to receive the Word of God and relay it to others. What must specifically take place to fulfill this duty is to delve into the life of an evangelist. This means that it is necessary to focus on setting the time to reflect and forum as we aspire to live the life of evangelists. This means reading the Bible, exercising, and challenging ourselves to evangelize, though this may not be easily done in our everyday lives. An inexplicable spiritual strength will befall those who are living their lives as evangelists, and they will be able to witness the Gospel to those around them. When we challenge to live the life of evangelists with the center of our beings, then we will be able to fulfill the duties of a prophet who relays the Word of God to others.
2. Strategies of which a prophet must be aware
There are absolutely strategies of which a prophet must be aware. This is the disruption of Satan. Satan is afraid of children of God who have salvation living their lives as evangelists. The Edomites were the descendants of Esau who hindered Jacob and the Israelites; in fact, they were the very same tribe who attempted to disrupt the construction of the temple in Obadiah’s time. This is the same as Satan’s strategy. Satan is even now attempting to attack the people of the Lord. The prophets of this age must absolutely bear this in mind.
3. The methods of prophets
Obadiah prophesies God’s judgment toward the Edomites. Prophets of God must know God’s methods. God is the God who absolutely answers prayers. Prophets await God’s time schedule. Because our fight is not against flesh and blood, we must trust God’s power and await His accurate time schedule. The prophets, who were the servants of the Lord, knew God’s methods; most of all, they knew His power. We must hold to this power, and relay the method of God, which is prayer.
- I am living the life of an evangelist and am a prophet of this age. Let us embrace the duties of a prophet deeply within us, remember the strategy of Satan, and enjoy the blessing of being raised as a prophet of this age as we hold on to God’s exact time schedule.
