What we need to do during scheduled prayer
Psalms 1:1~6 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night (2)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #446 I Need Thee Every Hour (#500 in previous version)
Scheduled prayer is a time to transcend ourselves with God’s power. In order to live the life of an evangelist, it is of the utmost importance to restore scheduled prayer. We must gain power and find true happiness through scheduled prayer. And if we pray for and help in the Gospel those around us who are in need, important doors of answers will open. Then what do we do when we do scheduled prayer?
1. Examine your scheduled prayer.
Because many people rarely do scheduled prayer, doing scheduled prayer itself is a great answer. In the beginning, we may find it difficult to follow through because of our old nature, but we take up the challenge because it is important. Scheduled prayer will become part of our nature as we continually follow through. Eventually it will go beyond becoming our nature and become the rhythm of our life. Then we will have no choice but to have success in the Gospel. Scheduled prayer will be the happiest time because we can gain power from God through scheduled prayer. We can share this blessing with others only when we as individuals have tasted it.
2. Try putting important things into practice during scheduled prayer.
Contemplating the message or thinking about God’s plan for what we do during scheduled prayer time is part of putting it into practice. As we do so, there is something we must do during scheduled prayer time. First we must grab hold of today’s evangelism, prayer, and Word. It is all right even if they are very small. Then we prepare ourselves so that we can put into practice what we grabbed hold of. And we must pray for new church members and those who are weaker and in more difficult situations than us. It is even better if we meet with them and share the grace and answers we have received. It is also extremely important for each individual to pray for one region and country with a bigger picture of world evangelization in mind. It is at this time that we can enjoy the answer of world evangelization.
3. Try putting good things into practice during scheduled prayer.
There is something we must do while doing scheduled prayer or before and after scheduled prayer. We can decide what we want to do and put it into practice. It is about continuing important things, such as exercising, studying, or researching for academics or ministry. It is also good to read books through which we can gain strength. And God will provide us with the wisdom that can transcend the world when we develop our sense of specialty. Most importantly, we must make plans for evangelism during prayer time and put it into practice.
- Record how many times a day and how much time you are spending focused on scheduled prayer. And write down your prayer topics and people you want to evangelize to. It is at this time that God will give you wisdom to save people and your field.
