If your body is sick, you go to see a doctor. If you intake good food and medicine and have plenty of rest, your body will restore health soon. However, the way to heal the heart and mind is only through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is living and active even now, and we receive evidence of healing in our body, mind, heart, and spirit when God’s power comes upon us. What is the healing in the Bible and how can we enjoy this blessing?

1. Field of healing in the Old Testament

In 1 Kings 17, Elijah revived the dead son of a widow. Also, when Elijah was powerlessly collapsed under a broom tree, God gave him great strength and showed him works of healing. Elisha also healed the son of a Shunammite woman with the Word and he got rid of the poison in the food when food poisoning occurred. Furthermore, he healed the disease of General Naaman and opened the door to missions.

2. Field of healing in the New Testament

The very first work Jesus performed was healing. He healed those who were sick and demon-possessed with the Word. Jesus took upon Himself all sickness.Matthew 18:1~17 Peter raised a crippled man in Jesus Christ’s name, and Paul healed the field of the Gentiles filled with the forces of darkness with the Gospel, thus, opening the door to world evangelization. Likewise, the answer of healing always took place within the Biblical evangelism movement.

3. Mystery to enjoy healing

The mystery to enjoying the answer of healing from God is only by the filling of the Holy Spirit. People in the Bible did not heal the sick or demon-possessed with their own strength. When the Holy Spirit came upon them, God’s power was revealed. Filling of the Holy Spirit refers to being filled with nothing but the Word of God and the Holy Spirit in one’s spirit, heart, and mind. When you discard all of your logic, thoughts, motives, and greed and immerse your heart in only the Word of God, true healing will begin.
