Alone time
1 Samuel 16:1~13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah. (13)
♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #453 More About Jesus Would I Know (#506 in previous version)
At a young age David spent much of his time alone. While tending the flocks in the field all by himself, he would write psalms of praising God. David did not waver through his aloneness or loneliness. Rather, he communicated with God during his alone time. During his alone time David received power that God granted to him, which other people were unaware of. Through that power, he received the answer of being the king who constructed the temple where the Ark of the Covenant was to be kept. What is the power that David enjoyed when he was young?
1. Three imprints
Three things were imprinted in David’s heart. As he was meditating deeply on the Word of God, he imprinted the Word in his heart and wrote over 70 psalms in his lifetime. Moreover, he communicated with God during his deep prayers and always praised and gave thanks to Him. And he did his best at his job of tending the flocks and received a unique answer. Having received power from the Word and prayer as well as the answer of uniqueness even in small things, David later became a historic figure of saving the people of Israel and the world.
2. The filling of the Holy Spirit 1 Samuel 16:13
It records that when Samuel anointed David as king, the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully
upon David. Samuel not only poured oil on David’s head, he relayed the mystery of the
Ark of the Covenant, which symbolizes the power of God, and the vision of constructing
the temple. The filling of the Holy Spirit came upon David who realized what God desired,
and he experienced the power of God. When we go out to the world with the mystery of
the filling of the Holy Spirit, God enables us to stand at the top.
3. Power of healing 1 Samuel 16:23
Whenever David sang praises, the evil spirit that came upon Saul left him. Likewise, the
forces of darkness flee wherever children of God, enjoying the filling of the Holy Spirit, set
foot. David believed in the offspring of the woman that God had promisedGenesis 3:15 and
was aware of the covenant of Noah’s arkGenesis 6:14 and the covenant of the blood of the
Passover.Genesis 3:18 If we have this power, the forces of darkness flee from us and the power
of healing manifests wherever we go.
