Experiencing evangelism to gain spiritual strength
Psalm 5:3 In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
As a lone shepherd, David meditated deeply on the Word of God. Because he received strength in the midst of the Word and prayer, he was not afraid of anything in the world. When we too experience God-given strength, nothing will be a problem. David enjoyed spiritual strength, experienced evangelism everywhere he went, and relayed the power of God. What was the evangelism David experienced?
1. Evangelism to save myself
Evangelism is planting the Gospel in people’s hearts. When David meditated on God’s Word and composed his psalm, the evangelism movement took place in his entire life. Moreover, God gave David slingshot skills, and led him to experience His power through various obstacles. When David went forth into the world with this evidence in hand, the Word was proclaimed wherever he went. The beginning of evangelism is overcoming the part of ourselves that hold onto the things that are not of the Gospel, and plant the Gospel in its stead.
2. Time schedule for evangelism
The time schedule is the chance for answers God has prepared. Goliath invading Israel and harassing the Israelites may have seemed like a disaster to everyone else; but to David, it was an important time schedule to demonstrate God’s power. David knew God’s time schedule, and was certain that God would protect him. People who know this time schedule will not be afraid, regardless of problems and circumstances. Rather, it becomes the door to evangelism through which they can enjoy the blessing of being with God.
3. Evangelism to save the world
Once out in the world, David faced the peril of death. King Saul threw a javelin at David and sent assassins in an attempt to murder him. But David neither resented Saul nor attempted revenge. Rather, even as a fugitive, he praised God. David looked only to God regardless of the problems of the world, and ultimately succeeded in building a fine temple to house the Ark of the Covenant. Though countless incidents may arise, if we are with God, difficulties will instead become an opportunity to fulfill God’s covenant.
