10 years ago, there were no smart phones, the Internet was slow, and the standard of medicine was below that of the present day. Our modern society has advanced beyond measure, yet it is becoming progressively more difficult to live in this world. Why is this the case? The fundamental problem of Genesis 3 when man became separated from God is still bringing suffering to this very day. David was aware of this spiritual fact, and thus, he entered into prayer every night and enjoyed the power to overcome the world. What is the spiritual power that David enjoyed every night?
1. The fight against the Philistines
Goliath, the commander of the Philistine army, invaded the land of Israel and cursed the name of God, yet the Israelites trembled in fear, unable to do anything. At that moment, David who was only a young boy courageously stood before Goliath. When the rest of the people were shaking before Goliath, David feared nothing and approached Goliath. It is because he possessed the power to defeat Goliath. This is the mystery of spiritual power that David enjoyed.
2. The fight with King Saul
Although David defeated Goliath and saved the nation of Israel, there were many who grew jealous of him. King Saul resented David to the extent to which he hurled a spear towards him and sent out assassins after him. However, David never retaliated. Instead he fled from Saul and wherever he was, David offered all praise to God. It is because David saw the forces of darkness working behind King Saul. The Lord watched over David and provided him with new strength.
3. Spiritual fight
David completely triumphed in spiritual battle. He held onto the covenant that God would raise him as king and was not shaken by problems that surfaced before him. David enjoyed the blessing of constructing a temple that God desired. The lifelong covenant that David held onto was to build a temple to house the Ark of the Covenant, and God fulfilled this very covenant. Until the very end, David enjoyed the power of God through prayer and remained victorious.
