Deuteronomy 34:1~8 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” (4) Moses is a man who received great and miraculous answers, even among Biblical figures. He was used in an instrumental role to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, and in that process, experienced the 10 miracles and the parting of the Red Sea. Additionally, he experienced God’s protection and guidance of the Israelites in the wilderness. Moses’ answers are not simply old legends. The God who worked in Moses’ life abides with us now. How can we enjoy the answers Moses received?
1. Moses’ past was all by God’s grace From birth, Moses faced the peril of death. Despite being raised by an Egyptian princess in privileged status in the palace, ultimately, he had to live the life of a fugitive in the desert. But all his sufferings and difficulties were simply a part of God’s plan. In the Midian desert, Moses focused solely on God and God used him to deliver the Israelites away from slavery. To Moses, who held onto God’s covenant, his past was simply a platform on which to see God’s works, and merely a process. It is the same for us today. Our past is all by God’s grace.
2. The most dire situation Moses faced in the wilderness became the greatest opportunity The wilderness was a desolate wasteland with nothing to eat or drink. Even in the worst of circumstances, however, God fed His people with manna and quail, had water spring from a rock, and protected him with the column of fire and smoke day and night. Children of God must live within God’s grace. Through 40 years of life in the wilderness, God allowed Moses to realize the mystery of the Ark of the Covenant and the meaning of the tabernacle. For Moses, his suffering and trials were opportunities for us to realize God’s plan and be rooted in the Word. Likewise, our own problems and difficulties are the greatest opportunities to experience God’s power.
3. Even the end of Moses’ life was by God’s grace In the last days of his life, Moses prepared to enter God’s promised land of Canaan. Despite many difficulties, Moses firmly believed in God’s promise to give him the land of Canaan, and knew that it would be fulfilled through his descendants. Ultimately, until the very last day of his life, Moses was used by God to further His plan. In this way, children of God must live by God’s grace from the very beginning to the very end.
