Matthew 1:21~23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). The blessing of Immanuel that has been given to His children is immeasurably great. The omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent God is with me at this very moment. When we believe this truth, there is nothing to worry about. Whether we have victory in every area and lead a peaceful life, or whether we face crises or countless problems, we will live our lives without wavering. What is the content of Immanuel that we must enjoy?
1. Immanuel that solved all the problems of our past
Everyone- whether they be a great scholar, a person possessed of enviable wealth and power, an unlearned person, or someone suffering in dire straits- is bound for an unhappy life if they do not meet God. After leaving God, no person can be happy. That is because, once separated from God, we are bound by sin to be Satan’s slaves. God promised to send Jesus Christ and be with us to free us from sin and Satan. By being with us, He is with us and solved all the sufferings and problems from our past.
2. Immanuel that solves our current problems
We have been completely liberated from our past and the shackles that bind us before we met God through our faith in Jesus Christ. But as we live each day, new problems may arise. We may have conflicts with certain people, and new conflicts and problems that did not previously exist may take place. We may find ourselves often disappointed at our poor and frail selves. But Immanuel is not a blessing that simply dwells in the past; rather, it is a blessing that is being actively fulfilled in the present. We need to lay bare our circumstances and the way we are and pray to God who is with us.
3. Immanuel that will solve all our problems yet to come
Even people who do not know God are calling the current times the end days. People’s hearts have become increasingly hardened, and heinous crimes are only increasing in number as broken families continue to remain a severe societal issue. It is common to meet people who are suffering from depression or insomnia. In such chaotic and dark times, we need to enjoy the mystery of being with God. Immanuel is the unique strength to win the future. As students study, parents raise their children, people with career work, and pastors minister, each person in their rightful place may enjoy Immanuel.
