Follow the Ark of the Covenant
Exodus 37:1~9 Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. (1) ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #393 Great is Thy Faithfulness (#447 in previous version) When the people of Israel walked through the wilderness, they followed the Ark of the Covenant that signified holding onto the covenant of God and entering inside the blessings that God has prepared. However, due to the standards we have established from past scars and problems, we lose hold of God’s covenant. What must we do to overcome the hardships that we encounter and hold onto the covenant of God?
1. One who knows the will of God
When hardships approach us, we begin to complain that we can’t find God in the midst of these problems. When children of God face poverty, this is not a problem but the greatest opportunity to look towards God. Hardships are permitted in our lives because they are necessary. God permits hardships so that we can receive the answer regarding our problems. He gives us the covenant in the midst of difficulties so that we can restore strength. Similar to the Israelites who entered the land of Canaan, we must boldly lay ourselves down in the face of problems and hold onto the covenant and pray. We must correctly discover the will of God.
2. One who knows the method of God
Within the Ark of the Covenant exists two stone tablets of God’s Word, a jar of manna, and Aaron’s budded staff. The stone tablets that have God’s Word inscribed on them serve as a reminder of the covenant for the people of God; the jar of manna signifies God leading and guiding us every single day; and Aaron’s budded staff displays God’s miraculous power that should be remembered by the people. Like this, the answer to all problems is within the Word of God. Through the covenant, God protects us by His eternally unchanging promise.
3. One who relays the commission of God
We must understand the importance of the covenant and relay it to our future generation. In this confused and desolate land, those who lack the faith and power of God have no choice but to be shaken. The suffering we face today is for the sake of relaying the Gospel to the future generation and for the restoration of the original blessings granted to man. The forces of darkness crumble in any field where one with the Gospel who possesses spiritual strength is situated. In our lives that are like the journey through the wilderness, when we hold onto the covenant and pray, God will show us His time schedule.
