Experience the Jericho
Joshua 6:1~13 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. (2~3) The Jericho was the greatest strategic base of Canaan but on the brink of destruction because it was filled with idols. The boundaries were so strong that the gates were securely barred and no one went out or came in. However, God said He would deliver Jericho, the King of Jericho and the soldiers into the hands of Joshua. Are you in front of a mountain that will not budge? God who passed Jericho to Joshua is alive, and God’s Word is being fulfilled even now. How can I experience the Jericho in my life crumbling?
1. We must properly understand the Jericho The Israelites were invaded by Egypt, the Philistines, Aram, Assyria, Babylon and so on, became colonized, and received several hardships. Even after having received the Gospel, they had the incorrect ideology of being the chosen people, and they lived their lives far apart from the Gospel. We must be able to see the age in which the culture of idolatry, unbelief, and darkness dominate. Even though stateof- the-art technology has developed and it appears as though there is no material lacking, we must be able to see the world that is being destroyed because it does not know the Gospel. God worked by His Spirit upon the people who properly saw the age and world.
2. We must know the method to fell Jericho As God was placing Jericho into the hands of Joshua and the Israelites, He revealed the method to fell Jericho. First, you must see the reality with the eyes of the covenant. The people of Jericho had already heard the news about the Israelites and were trembling in fear.Joshua 6:1 Second, you must grab hold of God’s Word while following the Ark of the Covenant.Joshua 6:4 Third, you must circle the Jericho once a day. This signifies remembering the Word and prayer.Joshua 6:3 Fourth, you must refrain from talking. You must not have thoughts of unbelief.Joshua 6:10 Fifth, you must become one and shout. This signifies oneness in the Gospel.Joshua 6:16 Sixth, you must not covet anything inside the city. You just need to discard your hidden motives and greed. Joshua 6:18 Seventh, you need to find disciples, just like they found Rahab.Joshua 6:22~23
3. We must know the Jericho of this age What is the Jericho of the 21st century? Influential organizations that emphasize that anyone can become God and ideologies that deny Jesus Christ through diverse religions are spread out across the entire world. Intellectuals and the wealthy who do not know the Gospel have seized politics, finances, culture and education. Trying to fill their empty souls, many people have fallen into the ‘chi’ (energy) movements and deep meditation. God is looking for the evangelists who know that the only way to fell the Jericho of this age is through the Gospel. What is God’s will that God who has given the Gospel is trying to fulfill through me? Understand the Jericho ideology and if you have found the Jericho of this age, meditate on the method to destroy it and try applying it to your life.
