Experience of Jordan
Joshua 3:1~13 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.” (7) The Jordan that flows from Mount Herman to the Dead Sea is narrow in width so the current is very fast. Not only could ships not travel on it because of its shallow depth, but there was a risk of drowning while crossing because there were sharp drops and pits place by place. In addition, the length of the river was very long so the majority of people could not afford to cross the river. The world we live in appears mighty like the Jordan, making it unapproachable. What was the reason God told the Israelites to cross the Jordan? How must I live in this world?
1. All you have to do is follow the Ark of the CovenantJoshua 3:3
The method to pass through the Jordan was following the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant contained the stone tablets with God’s Word engraved, manna that was the food of the Israelites in the wilderness, and the staff of Aaron that had budded. When the Israelites grabbed hold of God’s Word that does not change, God guided them through power. As God is with me, I will gain strength if I meditate on this fact. If you spend your day’s work centered on your time of prayer, you will experience being in God’s guidance throughout your entire day and God working by power.
2. All you have to do is enter the Jordan with faithJoshua 3:8
God did not split the river and then tell the people to cross. The water split when the feet of the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant entered the water. God does not answer you because you haphazardly act. However, if God’s plan needs to be fulfilled, even the works that are utterly impossible and the works that transcend common sense arise. We must know what the plan of God is. If we have realized the plan of God, we need the faith to put our feet into the Jordan. At that time, God shows us power.
3. All you have to do is make a monument for the future descendantsJoshua 4:7
When God had them cross the Jordan, He commanded them to take twelve stones and build a monument. This was the will of God for the sake of the age as all the people who witnessed the Jordan splitting died and as their generation was replaced and only their descendants who dimly knew the power of God remained. It was the plan of God for the Israelites to cross the split Jordan, take the stones as proof, and to leave it behind for their descendants so the covenant would not be cut off. The commission God has given me is to not only to enjoy the Gospel God has given me but to relay this mystery of the Gospel to the future descendants.
God is fulfilling His plan even right now in His time and by His method. The people who know the will, method and plan of God will experience the power of God. Ask God what His hidden plan is in all the situation and incidents I am faced with right now.
