Joshua 1:1~9 Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. (2) The leader Moses succumbed to death and the Israelites were restless and caught in unbelief. At this time, God called Joshua as a new leader and led him into the expansive land of Canaan that was possessed by the seven nations. Even though it was his first time on this path and it was difficult, God told him not to be afraid. What does God whom Joshua called upon desire for us today?
1. We must hold onto God’s Word correctly While watching Moses, Joshua held onto the Word that God gave Moses and the Israelites. No matter what situation you are in, if you have God’s Word planted in your heart, you will experience God’s plan working in you. Joshua believed in the Messiah who would solve the problem of separation from God, a problem no one else could solve. In the same way that God was with Moses, Joshua believed the promise that God was with him. If we experience the covenant that Joshua had, answers will come to us today. That is because God is still alive today.
2. We must see the evidence that God shows us Joshua did not shake despite the Israelites’ clamoring and the difficult conditions in the wilderness. Joshua saw the people who had fallen into idolatry and he saw God who had been with Moses. He saw the ten plagues upon Egypt and the experience of Christ’s covenant of the blood, and he saw the power of God who split the Red Sea. He experienced the power of God who was with Moses when he raised his hands to pray in the battle against the Amalekites and when he went to scout out Canaan and had faith. We must find the evidence that God has chosen to show us in all situations like Joshua did.
3. We must actually experience the power of prayer Above all other things, Joshua actually prayed. He learned from the prayer of Moses who was the central character in the exodus from Egypt. God promised Joshua, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” The secret to Joshua’s bravery and fearlessness was that he prayed. If he did not believe that God was with him, he would not have been able to lead the Israelites nor conquer Canaan. Prayer is my strength when I am powerless and wea God has called me despite my poverty and weakness and utter hopelessness. God has promised that no one will overcome me despite the fact that I cannot do anything by my own power. Quietly meditate on God’s covenant.
