Three kinds of eyes
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #384 All the Way My Savior Leads Me (#434 in previous version) Of the answers to prayer that God gives to us, there is the greatest answer. It is none other than guarding our hearts and our minds. We can understand the world only to the extent of our vision. Likewise, the answers to our prayers and the direction of our lives will be determined depending on what kind of heart and mind we have. Is our thinking perhaps in the way of living the life of blessing as children of God? In order to change our minds, it is necessary for us to view the world from God’s perspective.
1. Eyes of history
Like the phrase, ‘All roads lead to Rome,’ Rome was the center of ministry where people from all over the world gathered. Rome mocked and persecuted Christians but eventually made Christianity its state religion. God had plans to spread the Gospel throughout the world through Rome. After some time when the Gospel grew dim in Europe, God raised the Gospel movement through America. It is still the same even in this age where we are living. God is always at work centered on the Gospel. Even in the future, God will preciously use His children who understand the Gospel and evangelize.
2. Eyes of the ones who remain
Foreknowing what was to come, God brought us to this place and allowed us to be in this place as the scattered ones and the hidden ones. We speak of such people as those who remain. In the Bible, God did important works through those who remain. As the blessed servants of God, the remaining ones must have the assurance with their spiritual eyes wide open. Those who remain must ask God for His plan in everything they do, move in the direction of giving glory to God whenever conflicts arise, and seek His guidance as seen in 1 Corinthians 10:32. This is the way for the remaining ones to have victory in the world.
3. Eyes to see the crises of this age
There is a reason why God called the remaining ones. It is to allow all people to break away from the crises of this age. Idolatry and Satanic worship are pervading deeply into the culture as days go by. We must now view history from God’s perspective and know the importance of the remaining ones. Those who are unaware of God’s blessings take interest in things that are not of the Gospel. While the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour1 Peter 5:8, we must witness the works that arise when we hold onto the Word of God. No matter what kind of hardships come our way, no matter how greatly the culture of darkness surges, we will ultimately have victory only if we have the Gospel.
