2 Timothy 3:14~17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (14~15) ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #94 Who, You Ask Me, is My Jesus (#94 in previous version) We may give worship, meditate on the Word of God, and enjoy the overflowing grace that fills us, but there are times when the Word does not touch our hearts and we find ourselves unable to pray. Our thoughts and minds learn from and are impressed with what we have seen, heard and read. There may be numerous reasons for being unable to hear the Word of God, but if we change what we see, hear and read, we can experience the blessing of grace that God bestows upon us. How can we guard our hearts and our minds and receive the Word of God?
1. What we see
Unlike his brothers, Joseph saw God’s plans. David did not resent King Saul who threatened his life but tried his best to help him. It was because David saw the evil spirits torment King Saul. Likewise, our lives will be determined depending on how we view the world. If we view the world with the Gospel at hand, there is no reason for us to despair. If we look to Jesus Christ who has resolved all problems, prayers will naturally come flowing out of us. When we discover God’s plan and answers as we pray, we will come to see the Word of God as the covenant to be fulfilled.
2. What we hear
If we understand the Gospel, what we hear will change. We will hear the voice of God that lies on the other side of the words of people, circumstances, problems and crises that we are placed in. Healing will begin even with the changes in what we see and hear. It will become the platform for us to save the world and go forth as the ones who achieve success with the Gospel. If there are people around us facing hardships, we must help them so that they can see and hear from the Gospel perspective.
3. What we read
If we look through history, we find many witnesses who overcame adversity and changed the world even though the Gospel was the only thing they possessed. There are many books out there in the world, but among them we find and read the writings by those who have experienced the power of God and the books that will empower us before anything else. Afterwards, if we read the Word that God gives to us, we will experience the living and active Word of God.Hebrews 4:12 In addition, we will realize the importance of the Word of God.
Forum Topic When we are unable to hear the Word that God gives to us, let us meditate on the works that Jesus Christ did and apply them to our lives. It will be a time of grace of understanding the living and active Word. What are some things that we see, hear and read that influence us? Let us pray so that we can guard our hearts and our minds.
