Those who are saved from woe
Jude 1:11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error, they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion. ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #429 When Upon Life’s Billows (#489 in previous version) When we read the newspaper, we find many articles that are shocking or outrageous. Even those who are oblivious to God grumble saying that the end of the world is near. We are taught that we will bear the fruit of our labor if we persevere and work hard, but the outcome of our life is not good. On the contrary, the number of people who feel empty or are mentally going through hardships after having achieved success have grown. Everyone simply pretends to be all right, but in fact, there is no one, not even one person, who lives without any problem or pain. Why is that?
1. Problems that repeat in every age
The forces of darkness try to dilute or wipe out the Gospel in each age. Once the Gospel is gone, there is no way to stop disasters and curses. Whenever the Gospel was restored in each age, the works of God took place. The problems of mankind are resolved when people meet God. There is no other way but Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ alone is the way for us to meet God; He alone resolved the problems of sin and curses and has won the victory over the power of Satan. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we receive salvation, and from that moment on the Holy Spirit of God is with us. This is the core of the Gospel.
2. Time schedule by which God works
There is a time schedule by which God works. If we read today’s Scripture reading, it reads, “They have taken the way of Cain.” This means that Cain, without realizing the Gospel, failed in giving worship. “They have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error,” means that they have lost hold of the spiritual blessings while pursuing fame; “They have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion,” means that they were seized by the greed for material things and were unable to see God’s answers. God gives us holy grace and shows us the answers when we understand the Gospel and give worship and when we cast aside our greed for fame or material things and look to God.
3. Place that God’s eyes are turned towards
If our interest and eyes are focused on the same place that God’s are focused on, then our life is a success. God’s interest lies in believers who are fighting the spiritual battle. Those who enjoy the status and authority of children of God in this chaotic world of the culture of darkness must receive answers. God’s interest is in those who meditate on the Word of God and ask for the power of prayer in their field. God will grant power and wisdom through His Word and this is the method by which we can avoid the disasters and curses of this age and save this age.
