As your soul is getting along well
3 John 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #361 ‘Tis the Blessed Hour of Prayer (#480 in previous version) The Early Church changed the world even in the face of hardships and death. Individuals who achieved success, such as Theophilus, Priscilla and Aquila are included among many of the disciples who rose as the main figures. Gaius, too, served the church and evangelists with God’s important blessings and was used as a main figure of world evangelization. What is the reason why God used these individuals as the central figures of the Early Church and the main figures of world evangelization?
1. Those who know the mystery of the kingdom of God
Theophilus, Luke, Priscilla, Aquila, Philemon and Gaius, who understood the mystery of the kingdom of God, had the center of their lives directed to God. As they used the authority of the children of God in the places where they were, they offered their lives for the kingdom of God. The forces of darkness crumble when we begin to hold onto and enjoy the covenant of the Gospel, evangelism and missions in our lives. The blessing of our soul getting along well comes upon those who enjoy the mystery of the kingdom of God. We must open our spiritual eyes and know that the kingdom of God and the forces of darkness do exist. The evil spirit has seized all the fields of the world. The commission of the children of God is helping the kingdom of God to be established on this earth.
2. Those who know the method of restoration
What is important as the method of restoration is changing our priority. Just as it is written in today’s Scripture reading, when the kingdom of God comes upon our soul, other blessings will follow. When we enjoy the kingdom of God, everything in our lives will be restored. Even in the midst of difficult circumstances, Joseph and David enjoyed, before anything else, the kingdom of God by prayer instead of doing something else. Let us try to change the time of worrying and agonizing into the time of praying for the kingdom of God to come upon us. God will be at work if we remember the method by which God restores us and put it into practice every day.
3. Those who know the greatest worth in life
Gaius undertook the role of offering hospitality to the church and all the evangelists. What does this mean? He is the image of someone who knows the true worth in life. Those who have the reason to live today are different. Those whose life’s meaning is directed toward God live their lives worthy of the Gospel. Gaius, through the mystery of prayer, became a man who enjoyed the mystery of the blessing of his soul getting along well before anything else.
