Discernment that people with the Gospel must possess
2 John 1:1~4 Because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love. There are times in which He opens the door of the throne of heaven and answers us to the full. There are times in which He fulfills His will through angels and renders the forces of darkness powerless. When is God at work? It is when we, as the ones who have the Gospel, direct all our attention solely to God and pray. When we pray, not only is God at work but we will acquire spiritual discernment, which will enable us to understand our circumstances and people more deeply. There are a few things to know in order to acquire the power of prayer. What are they?
1. We must know what hinders us from praying
Intellectuals who are ignorant of Jesus Christ are unaware of the existence of Satan. Without knowing the forces of darkness, we are unable to know the cause of all problems. The Bible records that Satan existed even before God created this world. Satan severs the relationship between man and God and causes man to part with God; it is a misleading spirit and deceiving spirit. For prayer is the only means for us children of God to communicate with God, Satan hinders us from communicating with God and receiving the blessings from God.
2. We must know when and how the works of the Holy Spirit begin
Many people serve idols, and the evil spirits have taken control over the world with power, though temporarily. They demonstrate power, but problems keep coming. Then how much more works will arise if we take the time to direct all our attention to Jesus Christ and pray? If children of God ask for God’s blessings, the works of the Holy Spirit will take place. Miracles beyond man’s comprehension will take place. If we acquire the eyes to discern the works of the Holy Spirit, which binds the forces of darkness, the blessings of God will come upon us.
3. We must not be shaken by the works that God is doing
The reason why the Jews failed was that they refused to accept Christ who solved all problems. They could not acknowledge the fact that Christ came in the incarnate form to this earth. This means that after all they did not believe in the Word of God that the offspring of the woman will crush the head of the serpent. Using the leaders of the Jews and political authorities of the Roman Empire, Satan struggled for 250 years to eradicate the Gospel. However, no one can stop the Gospel. When we acquire the unswerving spiritual discernment, we will come to have faith in the works that God is doing.
