What people of faith gain
2 Peter 1:1~7 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours. (1) ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #497 I Love to Tell the Story (#274 in previous version) There are times when we may be envious of those who possess what we desire, eat what we crave, and do what we wish. Sometimes, we may even judge others solely based on their possessions. But people possessed of God’s faith must never be envious of the world, or even look down on it. We must instead gain something from God that will enable us to face the world squarely in the eye with the utmost confidence.
1. Power gained after righteousness
The entire world is filled with lust, and because it is growing corrupt like Sodom and Gomorrah, there are many things children of God may have to endure to not be tempted. God has called us to remain despite the trials and hardships. Even though our present circumstances may be difficult, He called us as the scattered ones. Though our background is poor, He called us as the evangelists to conquer Rome. Children of God must be even more upright and well-mannered than anyone else. To do this, we need the power to follow the righteousness Christ Jesus gave us as an example.
2. Skills and faith like treasures
The world looks down on people based on certain conditions. Those not meeting these conditions are mocked as not being skilled. If we don’t possess skills and faith to deal with such a world, we will either be deceived by Satan or surrender to the world. We will fall when the wind blows, and fall into the abyss of unbelief with myriads of problems. The world may look down on us and laugh, but we simply need not be deceived. When we simply confidently prepare our skills and ask God for faith, He will take responsibility for the rest.
3. Wisdom to overcome fear
If we are acknowledged in the world, beloved by family and have victory in spiritual battle by gaining faith in the church, no one can possibly block the path of a child of God. But the forces of darkness force children of God to waver, to be sapped of strength in the family, and even to fall into trials in church. The moment we fall into unbelief and dismay, we must not forget our identities as children of God and utilize the authority of Jesus Christ.
