Like Elijah’s prayer
James 5:13~20 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. God used the faithful Elijah in order to save the Israelites who had fallen into idol worship. Elijah was clothed with God’s grace, and thus, was able to defeat people, the nation, and the king who had all fallen into idol worship. Elijah was especially a man of prayer. Holding on to the mystery of prayer, he enjoyed great answers and stood as a witness. As children of God who have been saved, we all have the guaranteed right to pray. We can all enjoy the mystery of prayer similar to Elijah who received wondrous answers. Then what is the genuine faith and answers that Elijah received?
1. What are the answers that Elijah received?
Although the Israelites faced curses because of idol worship, they remained spiritually dim and thus were completely unaware of the source of such curses. In order to bind all the curses upon the Israelite nation, Elijah engaged in prayer before the Lord. Through Elijah’s prayer, rain ceased for three years and six months in the land. In addition, because of Elijah’s faith, God gave to him the authority to conquer King Ahab and the 850 false prophets in battle.
2. We can also receive these answers
Invisible to the eyes of the world, unbelief has consumed the culture of the world. Events we cannot comprehend logically arise on a daily basis. Looking at your current lacking situation and status, you may feel insecure and dismayed. Therefore, a great number of people have fallen into discouragement because of the harsh words of others or have become deceived by their sweet words. In order to receive answers in this world there is only one answer to hold on to. Because I cannot accomplish anything by my strength alone, I must equip myself with God’s strength. You must receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. If you just pray a little, you can enjoy the blessing of answers.
3. What kind of prayer must I begin?
When children of God encounter poverty, they pray instead of falling into worries. It also helps to find a person of faith who has experienced the filling of the Holy Spirit and offers praise with a delightful heart in order to meditate upon the Word with them. The forces of darkness utilize poverty, crisis, jealousy, and hatred to strip us of our reason to live and to fill us with despair. To receive answers similar to Elijah, I must begin correct prayer in my current situation.
