True devotion
2 Thessalonians 1:1~12 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (11~12) ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #502 Heralds of the Light, Be Swift (#259 in previous version) There are times when we get discouraged because nothing seems to improve even though we devote ourselves diligently at church and evangelize. If we fill our lives with things other than the Gospel, we will grow distant from answers. We need to practice true devotion with a reason. If we devote for something other than the Gospel, things will become difficult, but you will not lose God’s reward if you offer even a cup of water for the Gospel. We must now devote ourselves by looking at the spiritual world and practice true devotion in which God rejoices and not devote as a mere formality. What is true devotion?
1. Devotion of shining the lightActs 17:1~9
We became children of God by believing in Jesus Christ while we were under Satan’s power. We have no choice but to evangelize for we have the true joy of salvation. Although evangelism is a small devotion, God has prepared great fruits for small evangelism. Now, if we look at people who are caught up by the forces of darkness and are in need of the light of life with spiritual eyes, God will use us for the devotion of shining the light.
2. Spiritual devotion
The devotion of saving people is followed by persecution and suffering. This is the evidence that we are children of God, and He repays us with true peace and rest. Children of God must look carefully at the spiritual state of the world and know about the existence of the forces of darkness. There are many people who suffer spiritually and are desperate. Many are merely hiding their spiritual problems and thirst. Solving this spiritual problem and blocking spiritual chaos is evangelism and missions. This is spiritual devotion.
3. Devotion of seeing God’s workActs 18:1~4
Paul enjoyed the blessing of meeting with Priscilla and Aquila in Corinth. The couple also helped the church of Corinth and devoted for the church of Thessalonica and for the Gospel with prayer, and they were later able to see God’s works. The church of Thessalonica became a church that was praised by people and a model church to all churches. If we can practice small but true devotion with our lives, we will see God’s works.
