Different eyes to see the world
Acts 3:1~12 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (4~6) Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #267 ’Tis the Promise of God (#201 in previous version) Crime and suicide rates have risen drastically. Today’s world is becoming more and more wicked, we, as well as our future generations, will have to live in it without any logical way or countermeasure to deal with it. Many people fall absurdly into the culture of the world looking only to the high end of success. They frantically run after it only to one day fall and find themselves in a void. Majority of people either envy the world or look down on it. With what kind of eyes should God’s children see the world and how should they manage to save the world without falling into the culture?
1. You must have a different set of eyes
No matter how strong the world may be it couldn’t heal the crippled beggar. Mankind’s effort and intelligence cannot solve the fundamental problems of being separated from God, the curse of being held by Satan, or the spiritual problem of facing hardships within disasters. We cannot bind the forces of darkness that rule this world by our own strength. Since we are God’s people we must be able to look to the world and deal with it through the eyes of God. Also, since we are spiritual beings it is most important to receive the strength that God gives. We must see the world with our spiritual eyes and with the eyes of the Gospel.
2. We must know the mystery to break the forces of darkness
Problems continue to come because we try to solve it without God’s method or power. Instead of looking towards God when problems arise, we cope with it through our own thoughts and actions. There is nothing we can do to overcome the forces of darkness that is the god and prince of this world. Only Christ alone can overcome it. Knowing this spiritual mystery, Peter commanded the crippled beggar to stand up in the name of Jesus Christ. If we know the mystery of the name of Jesus Christ then we can bind the forces of darkness.
3. We must know the principal source of blessings
Children of God must know the principal source of blessings that were given by God. Mankind was created in the image of God, and also created to be happy when they are together with God. The principal source of blessings is a blessing from God that surpasses the science of the world. If you are a child of God, then you must restore the principal source of blessings that God has given and commit to save the world with the method of God.
- It is okay to live in the ways of the world if you are not a child of God, but if you are, you must absolutely live in the ways of God. If so, hold on to the covenant of God in faith. New Believer Retreat Lecture 3 / 2012. 8. 14
