Do not lose heart

Galatians 6:6~10 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (7~9) Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #80 There is no Name so Sweet (#101 in previous version) There are many things in the world that cause us to lose heart. Things do not go as planned and we are stumped by the difficulties that arise from conflicts with people. Sometimes, when faced with problems, we fret and become anxious rather than remember the Scriptures or pray. At times like this, we lose hold of the answers that God has prepared for His children. In the face of hardships, what must children of God do instead of losing heart?

1. Remember the Gospel
before anything else Paul confessed that everything that he had including knowledge and fame is all rubbish and testified that the Gospel alone is the greatest knowledge and treasure. Paul had a health problem and many people around him gave him a hard time. Nevertheless, he held onto the mystery that is in Christ Jesus and overcame all problems. Moreover, he met important evangelists, raised them as disciples and undertook the mission of testifying the Gospel to the ends of the earth. When our focus rests solely on the Gospel, the roads of answers will open regardless of problems or hardships.

2. Meditate on the fruit of the Spirit
When we cherish in our hearts evangelism and missions, God will give us the fruit of the Spirit. Love, joy and peace are the fruits that are born from the relationship with God; patience, kindness, goodness are the fruits that are born from our relationship with people. In addition, God gave the fruit of faithfulness, gentleness and self-control to God’s children who are in the Gospel. When we have only Gospel at the center of our hearts, the door of blessings will open and we will be able to save many people.

3. Wait for God’s time schedule
Before losing heart when faced with problems, we must examine the time schedule that God has given us. In the same way that God raised Joseph as a leader in Egypt according to His time schedule, God prepares what is best for His children and allows it in the most appropriate time. If we wait for the time schedule that God has given to us, we will receive the blessing of rising to the spiritual summit. The one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life; the one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction. (Galatians 6:8) When we view problems not from the perspective of the world but from the spiritual perspective, God will enable us to see the plans and time schedule that God has prepared behind the problems.

-When you get discouraged and lose heart with many hardships, first think about where the center of your life lies. And pray as you meditate on the Word of God regarding the blessings that God has promised you. Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 1st Service / 2012.8.5
