My identity
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #366 Open My Eyes, that I May See (#485 in previous version) Whether we know it or not, we all harbor various scars as we live our lives. We may not know it on any average day, but when something happens that hurts our feelings, or when difficulties arise, we will undoubtedly discover latent scars. These deep-seated scars bring confusion and chaos to our thoughts and hearts, and lead to complaints and dissatisfaction. When these thoughts pile up, we become so weak to the point that we are not capable of anything. This is not how a child of God with salvation ought to be. We need to restore our hidden true identity by asking three questions.
1. Who am I?
The reason things are so difficult is because we have lost hold of our identity. We are not children of the devil who are in a position of destruction and curses. Rather, we are believers of Jesus Christ to whom God has given the authority of becoming His children. We are of the identity to receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit for all eternity. Wherever a child of God goes, the heavenly hosts will protect us, and the forces of darkness will be destroyed. Once we discover our identity, we will not be scarred, regardless of the problem.
2. Where am I standing?
Joseph possessed a mystery that allowed him to enjoy happiness whether he was sold as a slave or falsely imprisoned. He dreamt of world evangelization in any situation he was placed in. This was how he realized that his position was not one of a slave, but actually a position through which he could save others. Where are you right now? You have not been abandoned or left forlorn. You are standing alone because of a very important commission, and are standing as a person who has been left behind to save many others. You are a hidden person left behind in God’s protection. If you realize that your place right now is a place of world evangelization, God will give you the blessing of saving others.
3. What do I possess?
If you have lived your life thus far thinking that you were weak, desolate and without any background, you must no longer think this way. While it may appear as if you are powerless and have nothing going for you, God has given children of God the background that the world is not worthy of. The Creator Lord is with you for all eternity and answers your prayers. Additionally, He sends the heavenly armies to ensure that His beloved children are not placed in danger. He also gives us the authority to bind Satan. From now on, we must live with the greatest background God has afforded to His children.
