Do not be afraid
Luke 12:6~7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #407 Dying With Jesus (#465 in previous version) For 40 days after His resurrection, Jesus spoke about the work of the kingdom of God and implored His listeners to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. The congregants of Mark’s upper room, who held on to the Lord’s promise, prayed wholeheartedly and were all adherents to God’s absolute sovereignty. What must we do in order to fight our fears and receive God-given answers?
1. Do not be afraid to cut things off
Once we acknowledge God’s absolute sovereignty, we will understand the reasons for nightmares, insecurities, inferiority complexes, fears, suspicion, and falling into a stagnant state. We can also realize the meaning of the Word we heard countless times before. We can also understand why the void in our hearts was not filled as well as the reason for all the persistent problems in our lives. We need to begin prayer to abandon all the things we possess that go against God’s will. If we are afraid of cutting it off, the things we can see will end up shaking our cores. But when we let go of all that is our own and stand instead before God, we will have victory.
2. Do not think it is a loss to discover anew
To enjoy the same guidance of the Holy Spirit enjoyed by the Early Church members, we need to know God’s purpose. Outwardly, Judea, Macedonia and Rome seemed so much greater than the Early Church; however, all these aforementioned powers fell before the power of God. A person may be wealthy and steadfast, but if they do not possess the power of God, their lives are entirely worthless. To receive God’s blessings, we need to discover God’s purpose and power. Even though it may seem like a loss to our lives at that very moment, it will eventually be returned to us in blessings.
3. Consider what we must hold onto 24 hours a day to be of the greatest value
Meditating on the Word of God every day and living accordingly is more easily said than done. People have the tendency to work hard for the sense of accomplishment for the sake of self-satisfaction. But the Christian walk must not be something we strive for in order to get a sense of accomplishment; rather, it is going before God to receive His hidden blessings. What we need to hold onto 24 hours a day in our lives is the pulpit message, and we must also consider it to be precious and important.
