Blessing of enjoying prayer 24 hours a day
Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #285 O Happy Day, That Fixed My Choice (# 209 in previous version) Many people misunderstand the Christian walk as something that only takes place on Sundays, and prayer as something that is only done at church or during worship. But the Holy Spirit is with the children of God 24 hours a day, and constantly desires to give answers and bless us. The Biblical figures who enjoyed the fulfillment of the Word in their lives focused wholehearted on ‘only’ prayer. With that in mind, what does it mean to solely focus on prayer, and what must we do to enjoy 24-hour blessings?
1. We must discover what is true
Many people consider the things they see, such as money, prestige, intellect, and reputation to be important. But people lose sight of the spiritual truth by focusing on worldly culture instead. Enjoying God-given blessings 24 hours a day signifies living in the world with spiritual standards through the spiritual perspective. Neither Joseph, who became the governor of Egypt, nor David, who became a king, paid any heed to worldly prestige. God blessed them when they abandoned material pursuits in favor of focusing solely on the spiritual truth.
2. We must wait for God-given answers
Many people in the world determine their own prayer topics and want God to give them answers that fit with their plans. Even after they pray, they cannot let go of their anxiety and behave of their own will regardless of God’s plans. But God always answers according to the individual’s time schedule. When we entrust all things to God, we can wait for the answers God has in store without worries, anxiety or unbelief. Before focusing on the problems right before our eyes, we need to see God’s time schedule and wait in anticipation for the answers to come.
3. We must discover our new selves
If we have accepted Jesus Christ in our hearts and have received salvation, we need to discover ourselves anew as children of God. When children of God enjoy the blessing of Immanuel 24 hours a day, we will see that a momentary loss is not important. We will not be dismayed by difficulties or persecution, and will be fine even as we are besieged on all sides. That is because even though we may look like frail clay jars on the outside, we possess a treasure within. When we discover this identity as a child of God, we can enjoy the blessings of prayer 24 hours a day.
