Follow the promise of God
Acts 1: 4~8 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (4~5) Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #539 My Hope is Built on Nothing Else (#483 in previous version) The forces of darkness rule over those who are not saved as the prince of the world and shake those who are saved but have weak faith, keeping them from believing in the power of God. You can gain temporary comfort from people, but it does not last forever. God gives grace to those who hold onto God’s promise and the fruits of faith to those who choose faith. What is the way for us to follow God without doubting His promises?
1. What must we do to obey the Word of God?
Before ascending to heaven, Jesus told His disciples to wait for the father’s promise. Seek God’s grace without giving up or disbelieving. Moses, who struggled for 80 years; Elijah, who chose to give up because he was exhausted from problems; and Paul, who had a world-class education, was in a high position, and possessed an exceptional background all faced hardships because of their spiritual problems but all followed the Word of God and chose faith, waiting in front of problems.
2. How long must we wait?
You will lose the spiritual battle if you don’t acknowledge God’s sovereignty. The people of faith acknowledged God’s sovereignty and gave their entire lives to the Lord. When things don’t go our way, we become filled with unbelief. Also, when we see people around us who are selfish, we begin to harbor hate. However, God says to wait until answers come without being deceived. Even if you feel as though you have to constantly humble yourself before other people and your situation only seems to get worse, wait until God fulfills His promise. To those who wait for God’s promise, He said that He would guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus.
3. What must we wait for?
If our health becomes weak and healing doesn’t take place quickly, we take medication to help with that. If you do not enjoy your spiritual blessings properly, in order to fill your empty heart, you begin to search endlessly for other things to fill it with. If your body is weak, it is the opportunity to restore your health. If you are consumed by too many thoughts, it is your opportunity to change those thoughts before God. What we must wait for and discover is the strength that is given by God.
