Gospel healing
Matthew 8:1~17 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.” (16~17) Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #36 All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name (#36 in previous version) We hear and see so much news in the newspapers and on television that make us frown. Diseases are increasing even though the medical field is developing, and vicious crimes and mental illnesses are increasing even though life is more abundant. Because problems that are inexplicable are on the rise, we need to know that the source of all problems lies in the spiritual background and focus on spiritual healing. We must realize that the solution to all problems is only inside the Gospel and possess the commission to heal the world. How can we begin Gospel healing?
1. Commission of healing
The world presents many answers such as science, medicine, and philosophy. However, nothing can become the answer to the fundamental problem of mankind, which is a spiritual problem. Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can solve spiritual problems and save mankind from the midst of sin and curses due to having left God. We who have this Gospel must realize the need for the Gospel and have the commission for healing as we look at the world. The reason that God has chosen and saved us is to heal the world that is in need of healing with the Gospel.
2. Healing in the Bible
Though small and weak, the Early Church that spread the Gospel to the entire world knew the importance of spiritual healing. Jesus came to the earth and first healed the sick and demon-possessed. Also, He spoke about healing after His resurrection. We must realize the fact that God has given His children the authority to drive out demonsMark 3:15 and experience correct healing as the power of God is testified through the Gospel and the Word is proclaimed.
3. Things to prepare in order to receive healing
Many organizations of the world raise various healing movements such as the ‘chi’ (energy) movement and meditation. They may seem effective at first, but anything other than the Gospel cannot save mankind or correctly heal people. We must do a correct healing ministry knowing that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only answer. We must raise workers who can give answers with the Gospel and begin the Word movement in fields that need healing. This is the beginning of Gospel healing.
