Acts 1:14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the woman and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #183 There Shall be Showers of Blessing (#172 in previous version) Lately, it has become increasingly easy to spot articles sending distress signals for the economy. While it is true that the world is currently in the midst of an economic crisis, if financial difficulties continue to be an unending cycle for us, we need to discover the cause partly in our own lassitude and powerlessness. Lassitude and powerlessness is a type of spiritual problem that we cannot help, and something absolutely no one wills upon themselves. How can we, as children of God, overcome the spiritual problem of lassitude?
1. Healing in our lives
In the book of Acts, there was a time schedule in which believers prayed for ‘only’ Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God, and the filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:1~14). While it is possible to do this alone, when many people who understand this gather in one place to pray, the time schedule in which the aforementioned become the ‘only’ things in their lives and they receive healing in their lives will arrive. That is why if we pray even for just one day on Sunday for solely Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God, and the filling of the Holy Spirit, God will bring healing in our lives.
2. Changes in life
When we take the time to pray with ‘only’ the covenant in our hearts, God will give us the grace that is unfathomable to the world. After receiving grace, we can begin anew from the small things. Though it may seem very minute, when we begin step by step with things we can do little by little, the small work will beget greater answers and enable us to gain greater strength. This will be the beginning of the end of our lassitude and the start of our transformative healing.
3. Power of life
Ultimately, we need to have strength in order to accomplish our work and achieve stellar grades. Strength can come from various sources, such as having hope, or when we do something enjoyable, but the only source of strength that remains eternally unchanged is the filling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit abides with us and guides us for all eternity. When we pray while holding solely on to this faith, our long-term lassitude will crumble and in its place will flow God-given true strength.
- No matter how hard human beings try, there are things that are out of our grasp. They are called spiritual problems. May you receive strength as you meditate within Jesus Christ, who is the solution to all of your spiritual problems. 33rd Healing Committed Worker’s Conference Lecture 2 / 2012. 5. 1
