Remember your Creator
Ecclesiastes 12:1~14 “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain.” (1~2)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #361 ‘Tis the Blessed Hour of Prayer (#480 in previous version) Solomon received God’s blessings and lived a life as a wise king who was glorified. However, as time passed, Solomon received many blessings but he was unable to enjoy them and he lost a hold of them. In Ecclesiastes, the story of Solomon, a wise and glorified king who received and regretfully lost blessings, gives us an important message. This important message is found in the Bible. What do we need to do in order to enjoy the blessings of God in our thoughts, our lives, and our spirits?
1. Remember your Creator (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
God as our Creator has prepared the very best for us. While God has control over our lives and leads us on the best path, we tend to have incorrect motives that cause us to lose hold of God’s Word. God desires to have a closer relationship with us. The reason why Solomon failed in later years was because he easily tolerated idols and worldly culture. If I forget my Creator God, like Solomon, I will lose hold of the blessings and fail.
2. Grab hold of God’s Word as my message (Ecclesiastes 12:11)
The reason we wander is because we face problems in our family, work, and school among other areas. When we face problems we should trust in God and find an answer in the Word, we are told to fix our problems. Problems continue to get worse and the world can be a confusing place. If you cannot make God’s Word your message in your life and your field, you cannot win over this world.
3. Enjoy the value of being a child of God
The most valuable thing is to fear the Lord and obey the Word. There is nothing eternal in this world. When a child of God does not obey God’s Word, he cannot live a worthy life. Although there are many times when the reality of life does not appear to agree with the Word, a child of God must not forget the importance of his identity and blessings in God. -Good books and positive words can impart strength and precious blessings. However, a good book or a positive saying cannot compare to the blessings that come from God’s Word. May you take time to meditate on God’s Word. Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 1st Service / 2012.4.15
