Job’s three faiths
Job 1:19~22 And said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. (21~22) Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #569 Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us (#442 in previous version) You have accepted Jesus Christ into your heart and have become a child of God, yet problems do not cease to arise. Jesus Christ has solved all problems, but why is it that you cannot see your problems being solved? Job was righteous and feared the Lord; however, he lost all his possessions and his family, and was left abandoned to live his diseased life alone. But Job held on to the mystery of God and was completely victorious. What is the mystery that Job enjoyed?
1. He was not deceived by Satan’s strategy
Within his hardship and suffering, Job was not deceived by Satan’s attacks. Satan manages to utilize various problems to prevent us from holding on to the truth of Jesus Christ. When you encounter a problem, what is the very first thought that you have? If we are downcast and resent God before hardships, then we are reacting according to Satan’s plan. When you look towards God and restore thanksgiving in the face of crises, the forces of darkness will be defeated and greater blessings will be received.
2. He knew the truth that faith remains victorious
Although Satan confronts the children of God with various problems and situations, nothing can break down God’s children. Job confessed that his possessions were not his, but God’s (Job 1:21). Because Job believed that everything he owned was under God’s sovereignty, he was not shaken. In addition, Job had the assurance of entering heaven, and thus, held on to the blessing of the throne as his sole hope. The children of God can stand victorious through faith before problems.
3. He held on to the covenant correctly
Job accurately knew about the covenant. Jesus Christ came to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8) and no one can destroy the children of God who dwell within the victorious Jesus Christ. Job, who knew the mystery of this covenant, stood courageously before death and looked solely towards the Lord. When I rely on God’s power, and not my own, then I can be victorious in spiritual battle.
- After his suffering, Job received a double portion of blessings. As you meditate upon God’s absolute sovereignty regarding the possessions of your life, make a genuine confession of faith before the Lord. Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 1st Service / 2012.4.1
