The works that arose in Mark’s upper room
Acts 1:1~26 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (8)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English #505 Christ for the Whole Wide World (#268 in previous version)
The lay people of the Early Church already knew what was going to happen in the future that God had planned; thus, they used all their efforts to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Similar to when we make a promise to a rather important individual and we anticipate the day when the promise will be fulfilled, the lay people of the Early Church in Mark’s upper room prayed for the fulfillment of God’s promise. When we sincerely await Jesus’ promise and pray, what kind of works arise?
1. They enjoyed the blessing of worship
The Early Church that knew the reason to worship was able to continuously give worship with a heart of thanksgiving regardless of the numerous problems they faced. In the eyes of man, the Early Church may have seemed undoubtedly lacking; however, they were a renowned group and army that later conquered Rome with the Gospel. By not enjoying the blessing of worship, my life will not be able to embrace the Word of God. Enjoying the blessing of worship allows one’s thoughts and mind to be filled with the Word of God, therefore, allowing us to remain victorious.
2. They received the filling of the Holy Spirit
The Romans initially believed that the lay people of the Early Church were foolish and poor individuals. In the eyes of the Pharisees that carried themselves as the most important existence on earth, Mark’s upper room was merely a humble location for the Early Church to gather, but in truth it was the field that was filled with the Holy Spirit. Despite being weak and lacking, God fulfills His will through His children who hold firmly onto the covenant.
3. They witnessed the fulfillment of God’s Word in the field
God seeks those who will hold on to God’s promise and follow Him. However, man chooses to only seek God when problems begin to arise. There are still those who have yet to witness the Word being fulfilled in the field. God fulfills His Word through those who know who Jesus Christ is, those who receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, and those who believe God’s plan will surely take place in the future.
-When you receive the filling of the Holy Spirit and hold onto the Word that will be fulfilled through worship, you will live a walk of faith with strength. Pray for the Holy Spirit that filled Mark’s upper room to fill your field as well. Mission Home Message / 2012.2.21
