The mystery to triumph
Numbers 14:1~10 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them. (9)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #502 Heralds of Light, Be Swift (#259 in previous version)
For the Israelites, the process of leaving Egypt, and crossing the Red Sea and the wilderness in order to enter into the land of Canaan was too difficult to carry through. God already made the people of Canaan melt in fear and prepared all the conditions, but the Israelites grew tired before their present reality and did not believe in God’s Word, which resulted in their disobedience. Likewise, when we are weak and find ourselves unable to do something, God always acts before we do. What is the covenant of God that we must hold onto amidst our personal weaknesses?
1. We must grab hold of the mystery of Passover.
No matter how high you climb up in position or how much power you come to seize, you can never be happy without knowing God. If you are not a child of God, you will suffer spiritual hardships. If you are unaware of the mystery of Passover even with having the status of God’s children, you will continually be deceived by Satan. Children of God can have victory when they hold to the mystery of Passover by which they broke away from sins by the blood of Jesus Christ.
2. We must know the mystery of the exodus.
With entrance into Canaan ahead of them, the Israelites trembled in fear and wailed before God. They left Egypt, a land of curses, and crossed the Red Sea, but in the face of yet another problem, they grumbled against God with words of unbelief, saying ‘Why are you putting us through such difficulties? You should have just left us alone as slaves.’ Often times the words of unbelief seem to have persuasive power. However, such words are never greater than the power of God who saved mankind who were seized by sins and curses. Just as God covenanted, the Israelites passed the Red Sea and the wilderness and entered into Canaan land. The covenant of the Passover, Pentecost, and Ingathering is the mystery of the exodus of leaving Egypt, passing through the wilderness, and entering Canaan.
3. We must enjoy the mystery of worship.
Those who cannot see God’s plan are easily swayed by the words of others. If we have faith, God will give us new answers in our lives, but if we have unbelief, we will continue to be used by the forces of darkness. God commanded the Israelites who were walking through the wilderness to make the tabernacle and look wholly to God. This is the mystery of worship of passing through the wilderness and entering into Canaan. Moses was terrified and yet obeyed God’s Word, Joshua did not lose hold of the mystery of worship, and Caleb humbly served them. Because of such individuals, God gave the answer of the conquest of Canaan through them.
