What people with the covenant must see
Joshua 14:6~15 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said. (12)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #438
Since Christ My Soul From Sin Set Free (#495 in previous version) There is a difference in the way that people with the covenant who know that Jesus is the Christ deal with moments of crises. Caleb, who was such a person with full assurance in the covenant, did not waver in the face of any crisis. We are the children of God who have received salvation and possess the covenant of Jesus Christ. When the saved children of God face crisis or difficulty, what covenant must they hold onto?
1. They must see the answer of Word fulfillment.
The forces of darkness burrow into the empty depths of our minds and make it difficult to hear the Word of God. Even those who have received salvation are prevented by the forces of darkness from hearing the Word. Even though we may know the covenant, we can fall at any second, and at times a split-second thought can ruin our lives. The 7 Remnants relied on God as things became more difficult, and they were not doubtful of it. They connected everything they saw to prayer, and tasted the fulfillment of the Word the more they considered all problems with the standard of the Word. We are holding onto the Word; but the one carrying out the work is God Himself.
2. We must taste true answers.
Caleb led the Israelites to battle when they were faced with the perils of war. He was one of the 12 spies on the mission to Canaan. Many people who scouted the land had unbelief that Canaan could not be conquered, but Caleb was able to make it happen with his faith of believing in the Word of God’s covenant. People who do not doubt the covenant of God will receive true answers, no matter what anyone says.
3. We must see the method of God.
The reason Caleb was able to follow the Word of God without undulating was because he saw the method of God, and not other people’s words. He met Moses, a person of blessings, as well as Joshua, and saw the ten plagues in Egypt as well as the crossing of the Red Sea. He also experienced the miracle of the quail and manna as he walked along the wilderness. God is even now alive and working amongst us. Those who believe and follow this truth will see the method of God.
- If it is God’s plan, we will have the power to overcome all perils. What is the specific mystery of being together with God? It is to hold onto the covenant and enjoy it in your lives. Meditate on how much you are enjoying the covenant. Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 2nd Service / 2012.1.8.
