Fellow servant in the Lord
Colossians 4:7~8 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.
Hymn for Scheduled Worship: Korean/English Hymnal #430 ‘Tis so Sweet to Walk with Jesus (#456 in previous version) The moment Paul met Christ in Damascus, he realized the meaning of the Old Testament, and received an answer to the questions of the law and an understanding of spiritual problems. He made resolutions on the spot and humbly received training. God desires to give the same answers to the Remnants. What must you do to receive the same answers as Paul??
1. In Christ
Paul did not consider his time in prison as imprisonment, but rather as the opportune time to save the Jews and testify of Jesus Christ in Rome. Theologian William Barclay believes Paul enjoyed the greatest favor from God, and Rev. Charles Spurgeon explains that Paul was not imprisoned, but that the prison was captured by Paul. This is the image of one who has properly received the answer of Christ. If a Remnant knows the mystery of Christ and enjoys the covenant of Christ, this blessing will be granted. It is not that God’s Word is not aligned with the reality of the Remnants; because the process is important, God has given you this particular field.
2. With
The word ‘with’ is used to describe those who are with God. Whom does God bless and answer? First, He answers those who know and enjoy the Gospel as they help the evangelists who share the Gospel. Therefore, the prayer to enjoy the Gospel is crucial, and aiding evangelists is the greatest blessing. Second, He blesses those who see the hidden things. Third, He blesses those who are prepared to save people suffering from spiritual problems. Everyone in the world is tormented by spiritual problems. Remnants must prepare to save these individuals.
3. Servant in the Lord
In Paul’s age, servants were of the lowest class, equivalent to slaves. With nothing in their possession, they simply served. Paul confessed to be a servant, in the Lord, and was grateful for just that. He was thankful that he faced suffering for Christ. Instead of falling into resentment, he offered up the best form of devotion while facing hardships.
