The chosen people of God
Colossians 3:12~17 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (12~14)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #289 What a Wonderful Change (#208 in previous version)
The beginning of devotion is to enjoy the mystery of God in our everyday lives (Psalms 1:2), and discovering the covenant God has given to me. Scheduled prayer is a time in which we receive God-given power and healing, so we need to fix a time and pray as befits my situation. If we are physically ill or want to receive healing from spiritual problems, we need to increase the time and concentrate on prayer. Continuous prayer is healing the field, and connects to healing the age. We need to make sure to succeed in academics and our jobs in our lives, and discover God’s blessings in the little things.
1. God’s chosen person
God chose us from long ages past (Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 3:3~5), and promised to be with us until the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20). God loved us first (John 15:16), and removed us from death into life (John 5:24). God gave us salvation through faith that we received by His grace (Ephesians 2:8). John Calvin said, “Man is complete totally depraved as a result of falling to Satan’s temptation. So God saved us unconditionally from Satan’s clutches. There is limited atonement, limited only to people who believe in this truth. This grace is irresistible, and those who try to avoid it will befall failure. God’s chosen people will persevere.”
2. Robes of Christ
In both our fields and our lives, we need to be clothed in the robes of Christ (Colossians 3:12). At the time the Bible was recorded, clothes symbolized hierarchy, and signified power afforded to the wearer. For a chosen person to wear the robes of Christ, we need to enjoy the mystery of Christ in our lives. When we wear these robes, there is no need to worry, and we can discover God’s plans in the midst of hidden and small problems. After being clothed in His robes, we need to pray for the peace and understanding of Christ to envelope us (Colossians 3:15), and when our lives are abundant with the Words of Christ, healing will begin (Colossians 3:16).
3. Resolution of prayer
The chosen people of God must resolve and pray, asking to become a successful person who evangelizes to the greatest number, or an entrepreneur who gives the most offering, or the most prayer.
- When we resolve to make our current day into a success, the forces of darkness will crumble and the kingdom of God will come upon us. Every day, pray to enjoy the mystery of the filling of the Holy Spirit. Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 2nd Service / 2011.10.16
