God’s trumpet sound
Numbers 10:1~10 When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies. Also at your times of rejoicing – your appointed feasts and New Moon festivals – you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God. (9~10)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #309 My Soul Today is Thirsting (#409 in previous version) As we live, oftentimes, we fall into trials and hardships because of the words of people in the world and at church. Even the Israelites who were walking in the wilderness heard the voices of all sorts of unbelief, “We cannot go into the land of Canaan,” “We must go back to Egypt,” and “We are all going to die here.” In the midst of such unbelief that digs into our minds quietly, we lose hold of important things and become deceived frequently. At such times we must hear God’s trumpet sound.
1. God’s trumpet sound for individuals
All believers must hear the voice of God who speaks to each individual as the trumpet sound. When we lose heart and waver, when important matters arise, and when trials and hardships come our way, we must hear the trumpet sound that God ways us to hear. It is at this time that the forces of darkness flee. David acknowledged the mistake he made as a sin before God and heard the words of the Prophet Nathan as God’s trumpet sound.
2. The trumpet sound that tells us to become one
We must hear God’s trumpet sound to become one in the Gospel, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. If people who put the Gospel in the center of their hearts, look to the Gospel, believe in the Word of God, and receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit gather together, they will form a harmony and will be able to communicate with one another. Wherever such people go, the forces of darkness will crumble. If people with unbelief gather at church, it will move toward unbelief, but if people who make the confession of faith gather together, then the works of faith will arise. Even at church the people of the Lord must come together as one and hear God’s trumpet sound to triumph in spiritual battle.
3. The battle to save the world, the trumpet sound that signals advance
We must hear God’s trumpet sound, namely God’s voice, and go out to the world. When we hear the trumpet sound of great faith for the spiritual battle and go out to the field, all our enemies will crumble and we will save the field. Though it may be just once before God, we must absolutely hear God’s trumpet sound in order to live a life that is worthwhile. If we can hear God’s trumpet sound of solving the urgent problems and God’s trumpet sound of warning, then God will use us in the field of saving the world. Today, we need to place God’s Word in our lives, really communicate with God through prayer, and find and enjoy the blessing of the evangelism disciple who connects everything to the field.
