Do not put out the lamps!
Leviticus 24:1~4 The Lord said to Moses, “Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually.” (1~2)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #268 Would You be Free From Your Burden of Sin (#202 in previous version)
God led the Israelites, who were slaves in Egypt, out to the wilderness during the exodus. In order to enter into the land of Canaan, they must have victory without failing in the wilderness. For that reason, God taught the Israelites how to gain power from God and have victory in the wilderness. “Do not put out the lamps,” means that we must not put out the lamp of prayer because God answers us 24 hours a day. This is called “24-hour prayer” in a single phrase. How can we pray 24 hours a day?
1. 24-hour prayer
What is 24-hour prayer? How can we pray continuously 24 hours a day? Around us are many problems, conflicts, and difficulties. And at every moment we must make decisions and choices regarding big and small matters. Remembering God’s covenant and choosing faith before God at such times is 24-hour prayer. If Joseph hadn’t remembered God’s covenant or enjoyed God being with him when he was a slave, then he would have fallen into despair. If we choose despair, we will face a loss, and if we choose to give up, then we will fail. Conversely, if we choose faith, we will receive answers. David confessed even in times of adversity, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” (Psalms 23:1)
2. Reason why we must not put out the lamps
The reason why all evangelists and churches must not put out the lamps of 24-hour prayer is that only when we do not put out the lamps of prayer, can we save the field around us and our nation. What is more, the whole world is dying from spiritual problems and the youth and future generations are wandering. In order to save them we must not put out the lamps of 24-hour prayer.
3. The way to light the lamps of prayer
Lamps are there to turn up the light. The one who can overcome the invisible forces of darkness is Christ alone, and He is the one who turned the fate of mankind around and defeated Satan. If we enjoy the light of Christ at every moment, we will gain true power. From then on, the light of Christ will shine around those who enjoy the mystery of Christ. If we take the light of Christ and go into the field, answers of the field being revived and the whole world being saved will arise.
- Choose faith before God at every moment today. And meditate upon the answer of the light of Christ shining in your field and the whole world through you.
