The life of the evangelist and basics
Acts 27:21~25 And said, “Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.” (24)

Today’s Scripture reading is the message given to Paul when he was met with a big crisis. In the midst of the crisis of facing death, God gave the covenant, “Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar.” For that reason, no matter what kind of crises came his way, he was able to overcome them. Even in the midst of problems, we must have the eyes to see the plan of God, the ways that God shows us, and the disciples. Only then can we hold to an important covenant. What is the answer that comes the moment that we grab hold of the covenant?
1. The power to change our surroundings
The worst surrounding that was given to us begins to turn. The apostles of the Early Church were stripped of their basic rights. They had no right to defend themselves even when they were taken under the law. On top of that, they were stripped of the right to live so they couldn’t even feed themselves properly. The Early Church that experienced the power of the Gospel, however, overcame all their problematic surroundings. God changed all their surroundings by the working of the Holy Spirit and by sending the angel of the Lord.
2. The power to change ourselves
From then on, God begins to change not only the surroundings but us, as well. All our difficulties become our platforms. The past that we once thought was our weakness and hardship becomes our platform as well as the answer of missions to save our field. Through Paul who was taken as prisoner, God proclaimed the Gospel before Caesar the Roman Emperor. It is at this time that we will be able to see the beginning of God who changes the future and the age.
3. The basics of evangelists
Now come the basics of evangelists, with which we can overcome our surroundings and ourselves. Peter was someone who disowned Jesus and ran away. However, he proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and declared the name of Jesus of Nazareth to the crippled man. Moreover, he cried out, “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” It was Peter who disowned Jesus before a little maidservant on the day Jesus died, but after receiving grace he proclaimed the confession of faith. Paul who once persecuted those who believed in Jesus went throughout the world and spread the Gospel. Just as the forefathers of faith did, we must let our past be the platform and discover ourselves within God’s time schedule. These are the basics of evangelists.
- Without changing the basics, fundamentals, and foundation, we will continue to be deceived by the same problems. Let us grab hold of the power of God who works regardless of our power and give a classy confession of faith.
