Understanding regarding suffering
Philippians 1:12~18 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. (12~13)

When God works, works even arise for powerless people. Peter who had no power and the Early Church that was poor and weak entered into the works of God. No matter how much you may have failed, that failure cannot overcome the grace of God. A great suffering of course came to the evangelist Paul who was confined in prison. Although people who received scars because of suffering failed, people who succeeded because of suffering said that suffering was to their benefit. What must we do when suffering comes?
1. God’s blessed plan
God’s blessing and plan are inside suffering. Although the 40 years spent in the wilderness were the most difficult time for Moses, God had a plan to rescue the nation of Israel. Unto Eljiah who wanted to die under a broom tree, God raised up Elisha and revealed the plan of raising up 7,000 disciples who would not bow down to Baal. In the Early Church field that was persecuted, God gave the greatest answers in the New and Old Testaments. We must not lose hold of God’s plan that is inside suffering.
2. The time schedule that changes life
If I realize my wrongdoings in the midst of suffering, a time schedule comes that changes my life. Even if you are struck with tremendous suffering and in the midst of weakness, like the Early Church, if you receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, you will enjoy the blessing of being a witness to the ends of the earth. Paul confessed, “Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses. For when I am weak, then I am strong." For God’s child, suffering is an important time schedule that changes one’s life.
3. Suffering experienced because of the Gospel
What must we do regarding suffering experienced because of the Gospel? If you face suffering because of the Gospel, an eternal answer will come. If you face suffering because of the Gospel, among the answers God gives, the resurrection message will be fulfilled exactly. Since the persecution that arose during the Early Church was because of the Gospel, the works are arising even now. The suffering received because of the Gospel causes works that change the age to arise.
- Paul was thankful that he was in prison, and this became an opportunity to change the world. In the midst of the suffering that has come to me, discover thanksgiving and try entering into prayer.
