Consuming passion of the evangelist
Acts 16:11~15 One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us. (14~15)

In order to possess the consuming passion of the evangelist, we must know what evangelism is. Evangelism is saving ourselves with the Gospel. It is for those who are in the field to let people know about God and save those who are drowning in their spiritual problems and are dying. God gave the Gospel to the Israelites, but they lost hold of it and perished. What people who saw this embraced in each age is the consuming passion of the evangelist. Evangelists must possess the consuming passion for the covenant, not the consuming passion for the world, or else they will perish.
1. Spiritual eyes
Spiritual eyes open when we possess the consuming passion for the covenant. To Joseph, it did not pose as a problem that he became a slave and went into prison. Knowing that the Israelites would suffer, Moses realized that God had called him. Samuel who had the consuming passion for the covenant relayed to David the consuming passion for the Ark of the Covenant and the temple. When the Israelites were destroyed, Isaiah saw the Remnant. Paul said that it was all right for him to die if the Gospel were to be preached to the Jews.
2. Evangelists who save the age
God entrusted each age to the evangelists who had the consuming passion for the covenant and used them in that age. God gave an important answer regarding that era to Paul who had the consuming passion of the evangelist, and Lydia who met Paul the evangelist possessed the consuming passion of the evangelist, as well. Bringing Paul to her house to stay may have caused a big problem in her business, and yet she had bold faith to tell him, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” Knowing the heart of Lydia, God used her greatly.
3. Resolution of spiritual problems
God resolves the spiritual problems of each age through the evangelists who have the consuming passion of the evangelist. Wherever Paul went, superstitions, shamanism, and idolatry crumbled. Paul was used as the greatest worker in his time. The spiritual problems of individuals and their families can only be resolved by the Gospel. As we see the spiritual problems of this age, we must possess the consuming passion of the evangelist.
- The consuming passion for the world will result in failure, but the consuming passion for the covenant will bring success. If we strive to pray with the consuming passion of the evangelist in our hearts, the forces of darkness will crumble. Enjoy the blessing of prayer as you hold on to the consuming passion of the evangelist.
