Unrecognized heroes of faith
Joshua 14:6~15 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said. (11~12)

Many people say that evangelism is difficult and ask how they can evangelize at school. We must first hone our unseen skills rather than preparing for what is visible. This is the spiritual answer. This answer is a great power that the people of the world are unaware of. How much we enjoy this spiritual power is the key. It is at this time that answers come to us and evidences emerge that are correct not only in our eyes but also in the eyes of the people of the world. If we hold this power we can overcome and save the world. An exemplary figure in regard to this is Caleb. Caleb went unrecognized but was able to undertake important tasks whenever crises came. How did Caleb enjoy this power?
1. He was with Moses for 40 years in the wilderness
As an unrecognized worker, Caleb followed Moses and witnessed all of God’s works that took place in the wilderness. When he went to the land of Canaan as one of the spies, ten of them saw large and fortified cities while Joshua and Caleb saw the fulfillment of the covenant. They understood the reason why the Red Sea and Jordan River had to be parted and the Wall of Jericho crumbled, and they knew the power of the Gospel. We must do any work if it is God’s plan and power, and we will be able to break down all the forces of darkness.
2. After Moses’ death, he served as Joshua’s aide.
When Joshua, Caleb’s co-worker, became the leader, he again served as Joshua’s aide. This is the evidence that Caleb enjoyed the spiritual answers. If we enjoy spiritual power wherever we go, we will not waver or lose heart even if no one recognizes us. Caleb played a pivotal role right behind Joshua when the Jordan River parted and undertook the role of an unrecognized main figure when the Jericho fell and when the Israelites defeated the coalition of Amorite soldiers.
3. He sacrificed himself whenever the Israelites were met with crises.
Caleb found the answers whenever the Israelites faced crises. At times of crises he would mention the covenant of God and confess his faith. He resolved to sacrifice himself. However, Caleb did not die, but instead the door of great answers opened. We must be equipped with our skills and enjoy the blessing as problem solvers who deliver the blessing of God when we go out to the real world or face difficulties.
- Those who have the spiritual power like Caleb have the leisure to be considerate of others and help them. Then the door of evangelism will open. Pray right now so that you can gain this power.
