Beginning and actualization of the life of the evangelist
2 Timothy 3:14~17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (14~15)
Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #492 Just a Few More Days (#544 in previous version)
How must we begin and apply living the life of the evangelist? The start is important. When we begin our day, we must absolutely hold on to God’s Word. Works will begin when we acknowledge from God’s Word the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. Because we are the greatest people who have Christ, we must have with us the correct sense of self-esteem, self-confidence, and pride. Because we are the people of the Gospel, we must be happy with Christ and, as we enjoy that happiness, we must study and go out to the world. When faced with problems, we find answers; when faced with conflicts, we renew ourselves; and when faced with crises, we find historic answers.
1. Make your family the complete platform (2 Timothy 1:1~5)
Ever since he was young, Timothy grew up fatherless and was raised by his grandmother and mother. He must have had quite some difficulties. Timothy, however, did not stumble but made it into his platform. Though he was raised in an impoverished family with nothing to show for, Timothy learned faith free from falsehood that his mother and grandmother possessed and became a worker greatly used for world evangelization. You may have been born to a lacking and weak family, but you must be able to make that background into a platform.
2. Make church your blessing (2 Timothy 2)
There are many good things inside church, but there are also things that cause trials and tribulations. There are conflicts amongst people and difficulties inside work. However, we must find blessings inside the church. No matter how small the church may be, we must realize the fundamentals of living a Christian walk of faith through our church. Because God’s grace is the basis of our walk of faith, we must receive God’s grace and gain power from within. We must enjoy the blessing of meeting inside this grace. As we carry with us the sense of identity that we are spiritual soldiers, athletes, and farmers, we must not worry about or fear anything but follow after God’s Word.
3. Take this conviction and go out to the world (2 Timothy 3)
Because people love other absurd things, the Bible tells us that there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of the world, and lovers of fleshly things, and that is why sufferings come to them after all. Therefore, we mustn’t envy, fear, or think little of the world. As we continue in what we have become convinced of in the Gospel, we go out into the world with the conviction regarding God’s Word. God’s Word is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, and enables the man of God to be thoroughly equipped and have power.
- We are the main figures of this age to save our family, church and the world. Let us meditate on what kind of beginning and application we need to have in order to carry out this task.
