Our lives are comparable to the journey the Israelites endured through the wilderness. Both external and internal foes are difficult to overcome, and problems that are uncertain continue in a never-ending cycle. There are more situations of disbelief than there are evidences of faith. At this time, God commanded the Israelites to build the tabernacle and to lead tabernacle-centered lives. Thereafter, He commands them to apply the consecrated scented oil to distinguish it. This refers to the fact that we need to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. Realizing the work of God and the Gospel is possible only through the Holy Spirit.
1. We must be clothed by the filling of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of the living God. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can we truly realize the work of God. The Holy Spirit personally aids us in our times of weaknesses, and He laments for us (Romans 8:26). David too was clothed by the power of God after being anointed with the Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 16:13). This cannot be done by our own strength; rather it is possible only through the Holy Spirit of God (Zechariah 4:6). When we are filled with the spirit of God, it is promised that children will speak of the future and young men will see visions (Joel 2:28). Such promises are the Word of God that will absolutely be fulfilled. When the Holy Spirit works upon me, I will know that there exists God’s plan toward my life and my today. We will come to understand the covenant that has been given to me within the Bible and comprehend what it is. Knowing this truth is the utmost blessing.
2. The filling of the Holy Spirit is the greatest gift.
The people of the Old Testament enjoyed answers by looking at the foreshadowing of Jesus Christ. The blood of the lamb on Passover as well as the bronze snake held high aloft in the wilderness were both foreshadowing Jesus Christ. By the coming of Jesus, the work of Christ was fulfilled. The covenant of the Old Testament was complete in the Old Testament. By the power of the blood of the cross, anyone with salvation can receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. The blessing of the royal priesthood has been restored to us (1 Peter 2:9). The moment we believe in Jesus, the authority of a child of God is vested in us. It is recorded, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26).” This very Holy Spirit is with us presently. It is imperative that we come into contact with the Holy Spirit during worship, prayer, praise and meditation. Our foremost prayer topic must be seeking the filling of the Holy Spirit. That is because the Holy Spirit is the power of God that works in our lives.
