Force of acquired habit
2 Timothy 3:14~15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus
Hymn for scheduled worship : Korean/English Hymnal #191 I’m Rejoicing Night and Day (#427 in previous version)
Timothy had known the holy Scriptures from infancy. Likewise, the habits that we acquire when we are young will determine our entire lives. And because what has been formed in us can come out subconsciously in spite of ourselves, what we acquire as habit is very important. Therefore, if we are trained in the Gospel and form good habits and are rooted in them, then we will receive the blessings to change this age.
1. Acquired bad habits
Bad habits that we have easily acquired will deeply take root in us and have a tremendous impact on our lives. Once bad habits are formed, our life itself will be like that of a sinner and we will be walking in the counsel of the wicked and sitting in the seat of mockers. The Bible tells us clear examples where acquired bad habits wreaked havoc: the Israelites suffered for forty years in the wilderness because resentment and complaints had become part of their nature, and King Saul who had fallen into egotism lived a miserable life. King Ahab who had wicked habits and King Herod who was blind to success lived their whole lives miserably because of the bad habits they had acquired when they were young.
2. Acquired good habits
If we acquire bad habits, we will live our whole life as a failure, but if we acquire good habits, we will receive great answers our whole lifelong. A good example would be the seven Remnants, the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11, and those from the Early Church; they had acquired good habits and were greatly used by God.
3. Habits of the Gospel elite
We must prepare, starting not from tomorrow but right now, for the habits of the Gospel elite. First of all, we must acquire the habit of scheduled worship, scheduled meditation and scheduled prayer so that we can enjoy the blessing of important meetings, because meetings take place through the things we have acquired. Another way to acquire the Gospel elite’s habit is through internship. Therefore, we must do a lot of good internships. Finally, we must acquire the habit of maintaining a structured lifestyle, time management and self-control and find happiness in them and come up with creative ideas.
● Forum Topic - Let us examine what kind of habits we have acquired. Let us break any bad habits and think about what kind of habit is a good one and challenge ourselves to acquire it.
