Keep the lamps burning!
Exodus 27:20~21 ”Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. In the Tent of Meeting, outside the curtain that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance among the Israelites for the generations to come.”

We can achieve some things with our effort, but there are things that we cannot gain through our own effort. In some ways, this means that we are incapable of achieving the most important things in life. Then what should we do? God told the Israelites, who had built the tabernacle, to light the lamps and keep them burning. God wanted them to shine the light that defeated darkness, chaos, and void (Genesis 1:3). It is the light that freed the captives and imprisoned (Isaiah 60:1~2) and eventually came upon us as Christ, who gave us life (John 1:11). It is also the light that must be announced and testified (1 Peter 2:9). If so, what does it mean to keep the lamps burning?
1. Keep the lamp of prayer burning
The prayers that children of God pray within the Gospel are answered. These answers come throughout our lifetime and are complete. If this is true, all we need to do is pray. Prayer is the best method. All we need to do is enjoy the mystery of keeping the lamp of prayer burning in our lives, families, and churches. Satan, who is working even now, spreads the seeds of unbelief through the words of people. Unbelief eventually makes us turn off the lamp of prayer and doubt that all we really need is prayer. However, praying inside the Gospel is the greatest blessing we can enjoy in the Gospel.
2. Keep the lamp of the Gospel burning
The oil mentioned in the Scripture is olive oil. It is the cleanest, purest oil, and is good for our health. The Gospel of the pure truth is the only thing that can stop conflicts and suffering. If we don’t realize the Gospel correctly, then problems will come even though we are living diligent Christian lives. Darkness will flee and God’s works will arise when we light the lamp of the Gospel.
3. Keep the lamp of evangelism and missions burning
God commanded the Israelites to keep the light of evangelism and missions from being extinguished. We must continually shine the light to those who have fallen into spiritual darkness. The Israelites experienced the works of God like the Jordan splitting, Jericho falling, and the sun and moon stopping when they enjoyed the blessing of the tabernacle that kept the lamp burning. The churches today must keep the light shining. This is God’s blessing that we must deliver to our future generations as well.
