Understanding the field
Acts 8:4~8 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said (5~6)

“But when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be my witnesses in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” This message was such a shock to the Jews of that time. Numerous images of gods were built and many spiritual problems arose during the time of Solomon. As a result, the nation was divided into two. The capital of southern Judah was Jerusalem and the capital of northern Israel was Samaria. In 722 B.C. Assyria invaded northern Israel and took a number of men as captives with them. And they brought slaves from other countries to Israel so that intermarriage would take place. As a result, every kind of idol was brought into Israel. That is why southern Judah disliked Samaria. There are many implications to this. Jews weren’t able to correctly see the important field. Evangelists need to understand important fields, both domestic and international, and in particular, the field of the elites and the future generations. The Early Church not only saw the people who were diseased but also its root cause and the hidden things. Then how must we as evangelists understand the field?
1. Knowing the field, Jesus mourned
Jesus took pity on the crowd who were suffering and exhausted like sheep without a shepherd. Do we possess this same kind of mourning? As soon as Jesus called His disciples, He immediately sent them out to the field. To the religious people suffering without the Gospel, Jesus said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The Word that Jesus gave after the resurrection was all about the field. That is why we must have a genuine heart of mourning when we see the field. Then God will take responsibility for everything that concerns us.
2. God will undoubtedly fulfill His works
God will undoubtedly accomplish His works if we hold to His Word. It is only natural that answers come to those who are used in the works of saving the field that Jesus mourned over and spoke about. It stands to reason that according to God’s timing, His answers come to individuals, their works and the church.
3. God uses those whose hearts are breaking for the ailing field
If we just let the field without the Gospel be, it will be plagued with illness, and the spiritual problems of people will grow worse. Without the Gospel, they can never be healed. That is why we must mourn and worry about how we can share the Gospel in the field. God will take responsibility for the lives of those who agonize in such a way.
