For His good, to build him up
Romans 15:1~13 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. (1~2)
♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #263 I Hear the Savior Say (#197 in previous version) Although God forgives all things, God does not forgive us if we do not forgive our brothers. That is why those who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. “For his good” means fulfilling the plan of God, and “build him up” means to save other people. How must we proceed for this to work?
1. We must get a taste of the Gospel
“For his good” and “build him up” means to help other people get a taste of the Gospel. This is the devotion among all devotion. For this Gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (Romans 1:16). The person inside Christ absolutely cannot be destroyed (Romans 8:31~39). God is eternally grabbing hold of us with His mighty hand (Romans 16:25~27). True healing arises when we get a taste of the Gospel.
2. We must bear with the failings of the weak
The 7 Remnants of the Bible bore with the failings of the weak very well. Joseph and David in particular, and Paul as well, were like this. These people took upon themselves the failings of the weak. This is the way to experience the power of prayer, the devotion to change the field, and the devotion to save the church. If we bear with the failings of the weak and grab hold of the covenant as prayer, the works of devotion will begin.
3. Make it so they understand what is true
“For his good, to build him up” means many people are grabbing hold of incorrect things. We must help them understand what is true. What is it that is true? Hope. Hope is knowing what will absolutely be fulfilled. If you have hope, you can persevere. Even if you have nothing right now, all you need is hope. The standard is taking after Jesus. Our duty is to give glory to God with one heart and one will. Our commission and purpose is to display the glory of God unto the Gentiles. Because we have this kind of blessing, it says, “For His good, to build Him up.” If you pray for this 24 hours a day, God’s work will arise.
