The Early Church was facing crises. It was a struggle between death and life. They had to choose either death or life. But one day a great work took place. Most people try to escape or surrender in the face of death, but the Early Church staked their lives and grabbed hold of the Gospel of life. How is it that the Early Church was able to triumph in their struggle between death and life?
1. Those who know the Gospel are bold
Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God over a period of forty days after the Resurrection. He promised that the Holy Spirit would come, that we would become witnesses and that we must not worry about anything but wait for the gift that the Father had promised. When they grabbed hold of the covenant, the works indeed took place (Acts 2). They were transformed after experiencing the working of the Holy Spirit. Upon seeing the crippled man, Peter, who used to be too timid to say anything, commanded him, “In the name of Jesus get up and walk.” Even when standing before the court, he boldly proclaimed that “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
2. Those who know prayer never retreat
While they were praying, they received the filling of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Upon receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit, the disciples, even under the threat of persecution, did not pray that the threat of the persecutors would be eliminated, but that God would look after them and that they could boldly preach the Word of God. The church of Jerusalem was met with great persecutions, but as a result of this the door of Antioch was opened. When the disciples gathered together and prayed in the face of great difficulties, miracles took place.
3. Try connecting everything to prayer
When Peter was kept in prison, the church earnestly prayed to God for him (Acts 12:5). It was then that suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and led Peter out of prison. The angel of the Lord struck down Herod the persecutor, and he was eaten by worms and died. Likewise, God mobilizes the heavenly army of angels when difficulties come upon God’s children. The Word of God continued to increase and spread throughout the region. Make a resolution today that the Gospel, evangelism and studies (work) all connect with one another and prayer takes place. Because everything lies in the Gospel, we just need to take everything and enter into prayer. Then our past will turn into a platform for blessing. Whatever we are going through at present, whether it is good or bad, will become a platform for the future. If we correctly enjoy the Gospel, the works of God will take place in the future.
